HTC Desire 510 LTE to everyone

While we’re waiting for HTC to announce the DESIRE 820, the company today revealed another Desire handset, namely the Desire 510. This is a “highly affordable” smartphone that aims to bring 4G to everyone - thus offering LTE connectivity and a set of not-too-exciting features.

The Desire 510 runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense UI, offering a 4.7-inch display with 480 x 854 pixels, a 5 MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable internal memory, and a 2100 mAh battery. Interestingly, the Desire 510 is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The 410 is a 64-bit-capable processor, but HTC didn’t mention anything about this in the press release announcing the new handset.

“The industry has been talking about the 4G effect for so long now that it’s easy to forget that only a small selection of top-end devices are taking advantage of the technology. Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets. People today should expect their smartphones to double as mobile entertainment hubs. This means ensuring that they’re fully loaded with the latest movies, TV shows and albums, by taking advantage of the super-fast network speeds available. The HTC Desire 510 does this and more, making it the perfect mobile media device,” said Peter Chou, CEO, HTC Corporation.

While HTC didn’t say exactly when the Desire 510 would be available, we know that the handset’s going to be released in the US (via select carriers), as well as in Europe and Asia. All in all, the 510 is an interesting smartphone, though it remains to be seen just how affordable it will be.
